Lovebird Feeders

Spread some love this Valentine’s Day by feeding the birds! During the winter months, it can be difficult for birds to find seeds due to all that snow, so help a fine feathered friend out and hang a homemade bird feeder in your yard. And in celebration of the occasion of Love Day, we’re going to show you how to make a heart-shaped feeder.

love birdfeeders 3Birdseed recipe:

  • 3/4 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tbsp of corn syrup
  • 4 cups of birdseed

Mix all ingredients together in a big bowl. This makes a good amount of birdseed, so consider making half the recipe if you don’t have a desire to create several bird feeders. Make sure all the ingredients are mixed well before proceeding to the next step.

Next you will line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spray a heart-shaped cookie cutter with cooking spray. That birdseed mixture is going to be pretty sticky! Set the cookie cutter on your parchment paper and begin packing it with your birdseed concoction. Really pack it in tight.

Once you’ve packed your heart, use something like a nail or chopstick to form a hole near the top. This is where your ribbon will eventually go. After making a clean hole, you can now carefully push your birdseed heart out of the cookie cutter.

Viola! You have a sweet little heart that will make the perfect afternoon snack for your backyard friends!

Let them set up overnight. You can then run some cute rope or ribbon through the feeders so you’ll have a way to hang them.
